Monthly Plan FAQs

How do the words per month work?

These are the total amount of translated words available to you in a month, based on source words. For example, a 3,000-word user’s manual translated into five languages would use up 15,000 monthly words. In a 20,000-word plan, you would have 5,000 words left before the per-word rate kicked in.

What happens if we use all of the words per month?

Once all words per month are used, additional documents are charged at a per-word rate (which we agree to in our master agreement). These charges are included in the following month’s invoice.

Do words roll over if we do not use all of them in a month?

No, words do not roll over; all unused words vanish into the ether.

Is there a minimum contract period?

Yes, three months. Recruiting linguists and setting up custom glossaries is very labor intensive.

Is there a sign-up fee?

No, but there is a minimum three-month commitment for the monthly plan.

Do the monthly plans include proofreading?

No, they include a translation step and an exhaustive QA step. If an important document requires proofreading, this additional step is charged in monthly words (not money), until the monthly quota is reached. Thus, your localization budget stays consistent every month.

Do the monthly plans include sworn/official translations?

No, that’s a completely different box of frogs. Official translations are subject to extra costs, charged in monthly words (not money), until the quota is reached. Again, the goal is for your localization budget to stay consistent.

How is formatting charged in the Boutique Monthly plan?

If you contract the Boutique Monthly plan without formatting, formatting is charged in monthly words (not money), until the monthly quota is reached. This is about budget consistency, people!

How do I change from a monthly plan back to per-word pricing?

Not using all of your words? With a 30-day notice, you can switch back to per-word pricing. The per-word rate won’t be as low as the monthly one, though.

How do document handovers work?

How does invoicing work for the monthly plans?

Invoices are issued at the beginning of each month. In the case the monthly quota is surpassed and extra charges are incurred, these are billed in the next month’s invoice.
